Accessibility Statement

for www.bardseyparishcouncil.gov.uk

Our website has been designed so that as many people as possible should be able to use this website. This means you should be able to:

  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

We do however know that some content uploaded to this website is not fully accessible:

  • descriptions of images and maps are limited
  • there’s a limit to how far you can magnify maps which are provided by third parties
  • Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value).

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Disproportionate burden

Some of the content is also beyond the capabilities of the Parish Council to convert to a compliant standard.

The Parish Council won’t

  • Convert older agendas and minutes so that screen readers will accurately describe the content.
  • Give comprehensive text descriptions of images maps or videos.
  • Alter any maps on our site so that a greater zoom facility is given.

Therefore, the disproportionate burden exemption is invoked for the above content.
